Neues aus dem Mac App Store: X-Chat Azure

Jeder IRC-Junkie wird sicher schon mal etwas von XChat gehört haben. Unter Mac OS X hieß die Portierung bisher X-Chat Aqua. Dieses kostenlose native front-end von XChat hat es gestern in den Mac App Store geschafft, allerdings unter den Namen X-Chat Azure.

Für die Namensänderung bringt der Entwickler folgende Gründe an:

Main Reason: Any application on Mac App Store may not use names that include ‚Mac‘, ‚OS X‘, ‚Aqua‘ or any other of Apples trademarks.

There was no way. So I dropped the name. Also, where was several other issues because I didn’t want to change X-Chat Aqua developement policy.

• We should remove whole ppc/ppc64 support
• We should support osx10.6 only
• We should remove update module (Sparkle, in this case)
• We should not work on ~/.xchat2 the traditional configutaion directory.

Gute Alternativen zu X-Chat Azure sind beispielsweise die ebenfalls kostenlosen Apps LimeChat oder Colloquy. Letzteres ist bisher nicht im MAS veröffentlicht worden.
